Growing A Vegetable Garden The Right Way

30 June 2010 by admin

The layout of your vegetable garden does not necessarily need to be absolutely functional but it is a good intent to at least make it look attractive.  Erecting a decorative arch and perhaps a few vegetable growing structures will not only improve the overall look of your garden, it will also aid the production of more crops.

The most common type of garden structures are those that are primarily built to help plants to thrive, as well as giving them the space to climb and support the weight of the plants fruits etc.

Certain vegetables, such as peas, cucumbers, and eggplants require a lot of support.  Growing these types of vegetables above ground, rather than in the soil, will produce a superior crop.  It will also protect them from insects located in the soil.  One of the biggest advantages to growing fruit over ground is that it is less likely to rot. We all want our plants to grow taller and stronger, so support structures are well worth putting up.

When you look through an online or local garden store, you will find a wide range of garden structures to select from.  The type you select will depend on which vegetables you plan to grow and which structures are most suited to helping them reach their full potential.

Another important bourgeois to think about is the look of the structure.  Ideally, it should enhance the look of your garden.  Structures such as archways, trellises and arches can really add a magical element to your vegetable garden.

Placing a birdbath or box in the garden will also add a nice element to it, and the birds will help control pests that can harm your plants.

Stakes are another very handy means of support for your vegetables.  Just make sure you fully drive the in to the ground and space them well to prevent encroaching on other plant roots.

Whichever structures you finally decide to add to your vegetable garden, don’t forget to purchase the twines, jute cords, or plant ties that are necessary to tie your plants to the structures and poles.

Organic Gardening Gifts Online

30 June 2010 by admin

Organic gardening gifts online are plentiful and, with a bit of imagination, can be found in highly unlikely places. You can, of course, give organically grown flowers – a bunch of roses or a wildflower bouquet. You can give an organic live plant, nicely displayed in a natural basket. You might even give a gift of organic tea.

Organic gardening gifts online don’t stop there, though. As the popularity of organic gardening grows, the number of gifts for the gardener also grows.

Organic Gardening Tools

Organic gardening calls for tools that chemical gardening does not. Anyone doing organic gardening will enjoy receiving one-of-a-kind tools. For example:

1. Compost Container: Small-scale organic gardening does not require a massive compost pile. A compost container, prefabricated from recycled plastic, can recycle kitchen waste into organic compost without a compost pit or pile.

2. Worm Factory: This organic gardening gift is another efficient way to compost. Just place worms, their bedding, and some scraps of food in the worm factory’s bottom bin. Stack other bins on top, with more food scraps in each. As the worms finish their meal on the first floor, they move upward to get more food. Their castings in the bottom tray, an excellent organic fertilizer, can be harvested. A handy spigot on the bottom tray drains off compost tea.

3. Compost Crank: If your gardener does use a compost pile or pit, a compost crank makes a good organic gardening gift. He or she will simply have to crank the corkscrew tip into the pile and pull out to alter the pile.

Earth-Friendly Organic Gardening Tools

Organic gardening gifts online also include some regular tools that are earth-friendly. Think of mowing the lawn with a near mower to reduce pollution. While pushing, wear lawn aerator shoes to keep the lawn aerated so that nutrition and water get down where the roots can use them. Someone who is “into” organic gardening will also appreciate a tree and shrub root irrigator kit. It saves water while being sure organic fruit trees and shrubs receive deep watering.

Ergonomic Organic Gardening Tools

Organic gardening requires more work than chemical gardening. Ergonomic tools will be appreciated by an organic gardener. Sets of ergonomic tools with a convenient canvas bag can be found at many online gardening supply stores.

We found a one-of-a-kind organic gardening gift online – an ergonomic gardening tool called a detachable ergonomic gardening tool set. One handle can be used with each tool in the set.

A wearable gardening stool lets your organic gardening friend rest feet and back while gardening. Even with hands full, the stool is always available.

Organic Gardening Seeds or Seedlings

Organic gardening gifts online include organic seeds or seedlings, too. A home window garden kit set we saw would be a great gift for an organic gardener. Each set has four window garden cans, with everything you need to grow organic seedlings on a window sill. You add water and sunlight, and transplant the plants when they are huge enough.

Any organic seeds or seedlings would be a good organic gardening gift. Herbs are always nice – fragrant and useful.

Organic Gardening Books

A book or two on organic gardening is a good idea, especially for the beginner. Find a beautiful and informative book, and your organic gardener will spend happy hours reading.

Organic Vegetables Mail Order

An ongoing gift of organic vegetables by mail order is also good. Find one of the online organic sites that ship via next day in the U.S.

Just for Love

One organic gardening gift we found online would be fun to give, especially to someone you love. The “Amazing Message Plant” comes in its own planter, ready to grow. The recipient pops the lid, waters the plant, and places it in a sunny location. As it grows, the plant reveals the message “I love you” on its leaves.

Can’t Decide What to Buy

It can be hard to select just the right organic gardening gift. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. If you can’t decide what to buy, check online gardening supply retailers for gift certificates. You can often get them in denominations of or . Order one or more, and place them in a nice organic gardener’s greeting card.

Flower Gardening Tips- 10 Worthwhile And Handy Flower Gardening Tips!

30 June 2010 by admin

Anyone can sow seeds or plant seedlings, but to be healthy to create a breathtakingly beautiful flower garden is something different altogether! And this is where flower gardening tips will come in really useful, transforming something ordinary into something extraordinary! So the aesthetically-inclined gardener would benefit by keeping a sharp lookout for any hints that come his way!

The list of tips keep increasing as people make newer discoveries, but even the most avid gardener can't keep track of all of them or apply all of them! Here are a few recommendations on what type of flower gardening tips one should basically look out for–

(1) Any garden starts with a designated area, and it is no different for a flower garden. The gardener has to decide on a focal point that captures a visitor’s attention. The center of attraction could be some goal or even a gate–it should stand out among the surrounding plants. Ornamental grasses can increase the height of the garden and even add a different texture.

(2) It would be wise to search for those flower gardening tips that give guidance on planning for a year-round garden. They will wage advice on creating a harmonious ecosystem, as well as the plants ideal suited to that particular environment.

(3) There are plenty of flower gardening tips concerning soil requirements. Soil is an odd mixture of rocks, silt, minerals, sand, loam, clay and organic matter. It can have different pH levels at varied loctions. Checking out these levels beforehand is extremely essential as apiece species of flower plant and pH level should match.

(4) The pH level indicates nothing else but the quantity of hydrogen ions present in that particular soil. For instance, regions with heavy rainfall produce acidic soil. Addition of limestone neutralizes the effects. In arid or dry areas, sulphur can counteract the effects of acidic soil.

(5) In any kind of soil, addition of compost provides the proper nutrients required to equilibrise the pH level.

(6) If fine gravel is put under the soil, it facilitates proper drainage. Additionally, moisture retention and control of excessive weed growth is doable with the laying of mulch on top of the soil. Mulch is created from forest floor debris that is granted to decompose (also called humus).

(7) Coming to the plants themselves, a variety of choices as well as flower gardening tips are available.

There are perennials that grow beyond a single growing season. They flower year after year.

Annual flowers are different. The plant does not last beyond one season–it germinates, grows buds and blossoms, then dies. Bulbs have to be re-planted before the next season, that is, around start season.

The ideal flowers are those that survive all seasons. A garden with such flowers will never seem empty! How is this achieved? The gardener can't have the entire garden covered with one species alone. So different all-season flowers of different species are chosen. Since apiece species blooms at substitute times, the garden gives the appearance of luxuriant growth!

(8) And that is what seasoned veterans advocate–to mix and match a variety of textures and colors of blossoms to the optimum level! The result is sheer magic!

(9) Sometimes, plants need to be transplanted from a container to the soil in an outside garden. According to flower gardening tips, careful attention has to be paid to the roots to ensure that the root system gets sufficient amount of space to expand as well as receive sufficient water. The roots should be stimulated to grow in their new environment. The roots should go deep enough for the plant to remain resilient in all weather conditions.

(10) Furthermore, the time of day has to be taken into consideration while transplanting. The day had superior be overcast or cool. And primeval morning or late afternoon is the ideal time, according to the experts providing flower gardening tips.

Three Great Ways to Grow Organic Vegetables

29 June 2010 by admin

For many, organic vegetable gardening has become very important these days. People are realizing that organic vegetables are free of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, which harm the environment and are detrimental to one’s health. By closely managing manure and fertility, organic farmers are sure that, ultimately, they can grow more crops than traditional farmers. So, if you are also interested in this exciting and healthy hobby, then here are some simple methods that many people have successfully used when learning how to grow organic vegetables in their own backyard.

As a first step, there should be sections of land demarcated for your garden, as massive as doable of your own property. An saint space would be around 10 x 10 feet. Then strip about a few inches of the top layer of soil to remove the existing grass and weed roots. Before planting organic vegetable seeds, you need to soak the topsoil. Then, flatten the soil surface with a shovel; this way there won’t be any puddles that prevent proper distribution of water.

Secondly, select various kinds of vegetables to grow in your garden. This will enable you to isolate problems that are specific to a given type of plant. To refrain depletion of nutrients from your soil, rotate apiece plant in a clockwise manner with the planting of apiece crop. After each harvest you should let the soil rest. In the next growing season, plant the seeds in the new location. Watch your plants grow each day to refrain problems with weeds and plant health issues. At times, you might even need to remove all of the plants, in the event of excessive damage. This is to refrain harming the rest of the plants in your organic garden.

And thirdly, to help you grow organic vegetables which will really flourish, start a compost heap close to your garden. Use domestic and garden waste to prepare the compost. It can be a combination of grass clippings, fruit and vegetable rinds and even animal waste. The important thing to remember is that chemicals should not be used in organic gardening. This is why good compost is important.

Here’s an update to my last Peacevine Cherry Tomato plants. The organic seeds came from Seeds Of Change.
